Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has urged his former club to buy a new striker because he is still unconvinced by summer signing Anthony Martial, according to reports from the Express.
Martial arrived at Old Trafford in a massive £36million deal from Monaco back in August, and started the campaign well by scoring on his debut against Liverpool and wining the Player of the Month accolade for September.
However, the young France international struggled last night in their Champions League fixture against PSV Eindhoven, in which the Red Devils ended the game once again with a 0-0 result.
It has now been six games since the 19-year-old has gotten his name on the score-sheet, and United legend Scholes claims he is still not convinced by the youngster and that the club need to spend in the January transfer market on a new attacker.
“For me he’s still got a lot to prove goalscoring wise,” Scholes said on BT Sport. “He isn’t a centre forward like you two [referring to Michael Owen and Gary Lineker] where he lives for goals.
“He’s a player that likes to come outside the box. He likes to drift to the left wing.
“He doesn’t really look bothered if he misses a chance. He doesn’t look bothered if he scores a goal.
“Whereas a centre forward, all you live for is scoring goals, all you want to do is score goals and he doesn’t look like that type of player to me, and maybe they need to go into the transfer market in January for one of them.”
