Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has come out to back Louis van Gaal after the team’s performance in the 0-0 draw with Chelsea, Express reports.
The club have now gone eight games in all competitions without a win, something that has not happened to United since 1990.
United came close to scoring on multiple occasions against the current Premier League champions, but both Juan Mata and Anthony Martial saw their shot bounce off the woodwork, while Ander Herrera forced an amazing goal line save from Thibaut Courtois.
Ferdinand believes if Van Gaal can replicate the squad’s performance against the Blues heading into the future, he should be given more time to prove himself.
“I think the encouragement is there with the way they are playing now, which goes back to the the identity that Manchester United have built over the years,” he told BT Sport.
“If that continues then I think he is within his right to try and make it right in the three year term he has got.”
The Red Devils currently find themselves sitting sixth on the Premier League table and were recently knocking out of the Champions League group stages.
They are now nine points adrift from first place Arsenal and are five away from Manchester City, who are yet to play their 19th fixture, in fourth.
