Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has blasted his players’ lack of aggression following their 3-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The Gunners ran rampant at the Emirates against the Red Devils, with United conceding three goals in the first 20 minutes for the first time in Premier League history.
And Van Gaal was astonished that his team showed no desire to win, going on to say: “I didn’t expect that – I was surprised because we didn’t perform to our gameplan.”
“We didn’t have the will to win and when you are top of the league, I was surprised – amazed even.
“When you give a team like Arsenal so much space to play football then you know you will lose. We prepared ourselves to be compact and not to lose our aggression, so I am very disappointed.”
It only took 6 minutes for Arsenal to break the deadlock as Mesut Ozil’s cross found Alexis Sanchez in the box, who cheekily flicked the ball past David de Gea on the first post.
And a minute later Ozil himself grabbed a goal after some good work from Theo Walcott, before Sanchez sealed the victory with a devastating shot that rifled into the top corner in the 19th minute.
United started the weekend on top of the Premier League table, but now find themselves in third tied with Arsenal on 16 points while Manchester City leapfrogged them to first with 18.
