Manchester United have been given a huge boost in their pursuit for Vitoria Guimaraes star Bernard Mensah, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The 20-year-old has confirmed that United are interested in his signature, while also revealing that his side are in talks over a potential deal.
“It is true that Manchester United want me,” he said.
“I have not spoken with anyone at Manchester United but I know that there are negotiations with my club.”
His performance in the Portuguese top flight has already alerted manager Louis van Gaal along with a number of other European sides to his abilities in the middle of the park.
Mensah has already featured in 29 league matches out of a possible 32, netting five goals while providing five assists so far over the course of the campaign.
Adding the player to the squad will be a huge boost for Van Gaal, especially with the manager very keen on reinforcing his side with more midfield players.
