Manchester United are coughing up £15million to bring Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen over to Old Trafford, while also preparing a move for Holland ace Daley Blind, Daily Mail reports.
The Red Devils hope that their new £15million offer will ward off interest from Barcelona, who are also keen on signing Vermaelen this summer.
United manager Louis van Gaal is desperate to add to his defensive line and has made Vermaelen and Blind his top transfer targets.
The Old Trafford club made an initial £12million bid for Vermaelen turned down due to the Gunners’ preference of selling him to a club outside of the Premier League.
However with Barcelona closing in on Liverpool defender Daniel Agger, Arsenal may need to offload Vermaelen to United with no other team able to match his price tag.
The Belgian was Arsenal’s captain last season but due to injury and poor form, only made seven Premier League appearances playing second fiddle to Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.
The Red Devils are also looking to sign Ajax’s Daley Blind, who Van Gaal coached during the World Cup in Brazil and is seen as the perfect competition for 19-year-old left-back Luke Shaw.
