Manchester United are plotting a move to sign Southampton target Jordy Clasie from Feyenoord, according to reports from the Express.
The 25-year-old worked with manager Louis van Gaal at the World Cup last summer and has been one of his transfer targets ever since.
Van Gaal is still considering a number of new additions to his squad and sees Clasie as the perfect candidate to play the role currently filled by club veteran Michael Carrick.
“No.6 is a key player, yes. I have more key roles – the no.6 is just one of those key roles,” he said.
“You have seen this season, for example, because Michael Carrick is injured and I don’t have another, I have to play with Ander Herrera there. He did it very well, but it is not his speciality.”
He has been a regular feature for the Dutch outfits this season, making 46 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing six assists.
United are also linked with a move for Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos to reinforce their back line as they prepare for their upcoming domestic and European campaigns.
