Manchester United are believed to have made a formal offer to sign Martin Odegaard in January despite Liverpool already agreeing to bring him on trial next month, Metro reports.
The 15-year-old attacking midfielder is currently regarded as the best young talent at the moment and has already attracted interest from a host of European elites.
Real Madrid have also made their move by offering him a five-year contract as the battle for his signature is likely to increase when the upcoming transfer window opens.
The Reds held talks with the Stromsgodset star to join them during the Christmas period in order for the club to closely monitor his abilities before making a final decision on whether to sign him or not.
United have already sent scouts to keep an eye on the Norwegian attacker and is keen to add him to their ranks as they begin planning towards the future.
Odegaard made 23 appearances this season, netting on five occasions and providing another six assist so far.
