Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi after the club rejected a £26million offer to bring him to Old Trafford, Metro reports.
The 26-year-old is also a target for Arsenal and with news of a rejected bid, Arsene Wenger may now need to consider a price higher than the one offered by their league rivals if they are to have a chance of luring him away.
Otamendi only joined the La Liga side last year and having sent him out on loan for the remainder of the year, he only returned this season, prompting their manager to reject the deal.
Respected journalist Guillem Balague posted on his Twitter account confirming that United have made the offer, but later saw it rejected from the Spanish club.
Valencia current sit fifth in the league with the Argentinian centre-back making 18 appearances from a possible 19, aiding his team with two goals so far.
