Manchester United are ready to make a move for Sporting Lisbon star Joao Mario this summer after missing out on Renato Sanches, according to The Daily Mail.
The Red Devils have a link to the Portuguese market and have signed the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Marcos Rojo from Primeira Liga clubs over the years.
However, Louis van Gaal’s charges missed out on 18-year-old sensation Sanches earlier this week as Bayern Munich announced the signing of the Benfica teenager.
It is believed that United have turned their attentions to Mario, who has been a driving force behind Sporting’s excellent campaign and unlikely title push.
The 23-year-old is versatile enough to play on the wings or in central midfield, with the Sporting star set to represent Portugal at this summer’s Euro 2016 tournament in France.
United are set to have a host of Premier League rivals, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain as competition for Mario’s signing.
