Man United set to offer £30million for Dortmund World Cup winner

Manchester United are set to make one last bid in an attempt to sign Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund, according to the Daily Star.

And if their offer of £30million is not enough to sign the German World Cup winner, Louis van Gaal will turn his attentions to Ajax utility man Daley Blind.

Hummels has been the first choice for Van Gaal since his arrival at Old Trafford, and is desperate to sign him before the Premier League returns next weekend.

United missed out on another defensive target yesterday, when Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen agreed to a £15million move to Barcelona.

That has seen the Red Devils step up the chase for Hummels, whilst Blind and Roma defender Mehdi Banatia remain the back up options.

24-year-old Blind played under Van Gaal as the Netherlands finished third at the World Cup, and is capable of operating at left back, left sided centre back, left wing back, and central midfield.

United are still being linked with a move for Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria, with the Argentine set to cost in excess of £50million, after Paris St Germain dropped out of the race to sign him.
