Man United set to reignite January interest in Fiorentina striker

Manchester United are being linked with a January move to sign Fiorentina star Mario Gomez who is currently on loan at Besiktas, according to Calciomercato, as reported by the Express.

The 30-year-old emerged as a shock target for manager Louis van Gaal during the summer, but he instead completed a £36million move for Anthony Martial from Monaco.

However, with the 19-year-old still developing, the Dutchman has been deploying the France international on the left wing as he is still keen on adding another striker to his squad.

United previously went three consecutive games without a goal before captain Wayne Rooney managed to find the back of the net in the 1-0 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow yesterday.

The lack of choices up top has seen Van Gaal convert midfielder Marouane Fellaini into an emergency striker on more than one occasion this season.

A move for Gomez could provide the Red Devils with more options in attack given that he has already netted nine goals from his previous 13 matches in all competition for his side this term.
