Manchester United are making it difficult for Arsenal to sign Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal after joining the race for his services as they prepare to meet his £15million buy-out clause, Express reports.
The 24-year-old is already the subject of an earlier bid from Arsene Wenger, involving a loan move for Joel Campbell along with a £5million fee attached to the deal.
However, with interest heating up, the La Liga side is now considering a full money offer from either clubs if they are to begin negotiations over the potential switch.
Both teams have made a defensive signing a priority during the January window and could be prepared to meet his acceptable fee in light of Paulista’s revelation to play in England.
He said: “The subject is being discussed by my agent and the club.
“If I go to Arsenal it will be excellent. But if it’s not finalised then I am relaxed. I am focused on my work here.
“My agent is working on making sure I continue being calm.
“Playing in the Premier League is one of my dreams. I have spoken to my agent about this.”
Louis van Gaal along with Wenger are also tracking the likes of Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi, but with the club demanding a huge fee to move the deal forward, they may instead consider the more cost-effective option with the Villarreal star.
