Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has denied ever making an official transfer request despite wanting to leave the club back in 2010 as well as 2013, according to reports from the Mirror.
Rooney was close to leaving Old Trafford twice in the past, with the England international citing on both occasions that he had doubts over United’s ability to compete for more titles.
In the summer of 2013 he was even heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, but the Red Devils turned down two offers from the Blues.
However, Rooney is adamant that even though he was considering an exit, he never forced a move by handing in an official transfer request.
“I said [to Sir Alex Ferguson] if you’re not going to play me it might be better if I moved on,” he said on a BBC documentary titled: Wayne Rooney – The Man Behind The Goals.
“But I never put in a transfer request. I don’t know why it came out that way.”
The 29-year-old has been recently criticized for his lack of goals this season, but finally grabbed his first league goal in United’s 3-0 victory over Sunderland during the weekend.
Last term, Rooney made 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 goals.
