Manchester United star Michael Carrick has come out to tell the fans that they cannot put too much pressure on summer signing Anthony Martial, Daily Star reports.
The 19-year-old made a shock £36million move to Old Trafford during the summer, prompting concerns over his price-tag, but has so far lived up to expectations with a number of impressive performances.
Carrick revealed that the former Monaco forward must be given time to adapt to the English game while also stating that everyone must continue to back him even if he’s under performing.
“It’s a big step to come to this club to play, with the expectations and the standards that have been set – and with that comes responsibility,” he said.
“We just have to be careful and not expect too much from him because it is early days and he’s going to have ups and downs, because that’s the nature of how it goes.”
Martial was the last person to score for United given that the team has now gone three games without netting a single goal.
The Red Devils are now preparing for their upcoming Champions League clash against CSKA Moscow as they look to pick up all three points after drawing the away fixture 1-1.
It looks as though everyone is relying on the France international to grab the goals for his squad given that club captain Wayne Rooney has so far been struggling to find the back of the net.
