Manchester United star Memphis Depay has admitted that he will take every chance he can to impress after he was dropped to the bench by manager Louis van Gaal, Daily Star reports.
The 21-year-old has so far struggled to adapt to football in the Premier League since his £25million move from PSV Eindhoven,
Despite signing £36million striker Anthony Martial from Monaco in the summer, Van Gaal has now opted to replace him with Depay on the left flanks while giving captain Wayne Rooney a solo role up top.
The Dutch winger was also criticised for his performance with the Netherlands national team and was eventually dropped from the squad for the time being.
He has now come out to reveal that it is hard to impress when he keeps getting benched, but will be at the top of his game once the opportunity to prove his critics wrong arises.
“Of course it’s difficult when you’re on the bench,” he said.
“But it’s going better right now and it’s also going better on the training pitch.
“So if I get my chance to play, I will take it.”
The attacker has featured in eight out of a possible 12 league matches for his side this term, but has only been able to score one goal and is yet to provide a single assist (whoscored.com).
