Manchester United are considering a move for Real Madrid star Pepe to follow the capture of Pedro Rodriguez from Barcelona, according to reports in the Mirror.
Pedro has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks, with Chelsea also previously keen on the 28-year-old.
The Spain winger has found regular first-team football hard to come by in Catalonia, playing behind the likes of Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Luis Suarez in the pecking order.
Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal is confident Pedro will complete a £20milion deal to Old Trafford in the next 48 hours, but the Dutchman is also interested in Real centre-back Pepe.
United were targeting Pepe’s team-mate Sergio Ramos in hopes of exchanging him with goalkeeper David de Gea, but the former Sevilla defender extended his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.
And with new Real boss Rafa Benitez set to pair Raphael Varane and Ramos as his first choice centre-backs, Pepe could become available for Man United before the end of the transfer window.
