Manchester United are set to go toe-to-toe with Southampton at Wembley this weekend in the EFL Cup final, where the Red Devils will look to get their hands on the first trophy of the Jose Mourinho era and clinch another day to remember at England's national stadium.

United were victorious on their last visit to the capital for a cup final as they defeated Crystal Palace in May last year, following a dramatic match, and the Red Devils will be hoping for a much more comfortable result this weekend.

Southampton, as they showed against Liverpool, are a strong side when they want to beat but Claude Puel's team have lacked consistency at stages this season- although the players will certainly be expected to rise to the occasion.

Mourinho's side remain favourites though and BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson is expecting them to finish the game victorious, although he does feel it may take time to break down the Saints.

"Southampton cannot come out all guns blazing against Manchester United because they will just get picked off, so Saints will sit in. I think United will find a way through, though. They have got plenty of big-game players, and quite a few of them are in the sort of form where they can turn a game."

"Southampton will not make it easy for them, and we saw in their semi-final against Liverpool what a good side they can be, but I am still going with United to get their hands on the trophy."

Victory for United would still not secure minimum objectives for Mourinho's side this season, as they'll look to retain their FA Cup crown and clinch a top-four finish in the Premier League, whilst it would be a momentous result for Southampton.
