Manchester United is tipped to end their chase for Ron Vlaar after Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert revealed that the centre-back picked up a knee injury that could rule him out for around six weeks, Daily Star reports.
The 29-year-old was on the verge of a switch to Old Trafford with Louis van Gaal said to have already begun negotiating with Villa over a possible transfer fee.
However, Lambert believes that the six week injury lay-off is likely to cause United to rethink their move for the Dutch defender and when asked he admitted that the switch could be cancelled.
He said: “Yes, you would think so.
“We just have to get him back fit. His knee locked against Palace, which never helps.
“It’s just a little meniscus, so maybe four or six weeks, so it’s not too bad as it could have been.”
Van Gaal was keen to be reunited with the Netherlands international, a player that has received a lot of praise for his performance during the World Cup in Brazil.
