Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos has ended any chances of joining Manchester United by signing a new five-year deal with the La Liga giants, according to reports from the Mirror.
Ramos has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford for much of the summer, with the Red Devils hoping to sign the Spain defender as part of a deal that will see David de Gea go in the other direction.
However, the two clubs have been unable to come to an agreement over a potential switch, and Ramos has therefore decided to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu by penning a new five-year contract.
This will thus end one of the summer’s biggest transfer sagas, but United manager Louis van Gaal is still keen on signing a centre-back before the end of the transfer window.
Valencia star Nicolas Otamendi was thought to be the man to partner Chris Smalling at the heart of defence, but United may be forced to look elsewhere once again with rivals Manchester City reportedly close to securing the Argentina international.
