Manchester United are ready to launch a €38m (£31.7m) move for Palmeiras’ Gabriel Jesus within the next 24 hours as they plot to beat Manchester City to the Brazilian starlet, according to reports from Globo.
The 19-year-old forward, who is currently with the Selecao’s U-23s as they gear up for the Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, is currently the hottest youngster on the South American nation’s footballing scene.
Indeed, Gabriel Jesus is the top scorer in the country’s top tier with 10 goals in the 2016 season, which has led to serious interest from Europe.
Manchester City were thought to be closing in on a deal for the teenager, who had been swayed by a personal phone call by Pep Guardiola, but reports claim that Man United will move on Wednesday with a £31.8m offer, some €6m (£5m) more than their bitter rivals are willing to pay.
It remains to be seen if Gabriel Jesus will be tempted by the Red Devils and Jose Mourinho, with the approach made by the Etihad Stadium boss thought to have been well received by the player.
