Manchester United want to get Robin van Persie off the club’s wage bill and will pay him £5 million to leave Old Trafford this summer, according to The Daily Mail.
The veteran Dutch striker has 14 months remaining on his current deal, which will cost the Red Devils a cool £10 million over the course of its expiry.
As such, United are eager to save themselves £5 million by buying Van Persie’s contract out and allowing him to leave the club on a free transfer this summer.
The Dutch forward has struggled with injury concerns this season and will not play a part in United’s derby clash against cross-town rivals Manchester City later today.
It is believed that Louis van Gaal’s men have prioritised fresh blood in their attack this summer, with the likes of Edinson Cavani and Memphis Depay in the club’s sights.
Italian powerhouses Juventus and Inter are reportedly keeping an eye on Van Persie’s situation and would move to sign him on a free transfer if available in the summer.
