Galatasaray have told Manchester United they need to cough up £16million to sign Wesley Sneijder, Express reports.
Man United have been long term admirers of the Dutch midfielder and could meet his £16million release clause to bring him to Old Trafford.
The Turkish club announced the capture of former Italy boss Cesare Prandelli as the new manager, who was keen to keep hold of Sneijder for next season.
However Galatasaray president Unal Aysal has expressed that if the former Inter midfielder’s buy-out clause is met, then the player is free to negotiate with the interested party.
Aysal said: “Wesley Sneijder has a release clause set at €20m [£16m].
“Any team that give us that money and he wants to go, we can’t keep him.
“Legally speaking, we have no right.”
Prandelli added: “He is one of the biggest players for the Netherlands and Galatasaray.
“I like this type of player, who have character and can be silent leaders, like Pirlo.
“I hope to have that kind of player this season.”
Sneijder has played a major role in the Netherlands reaching the World Cup semi-finals, most notably a last minute equalizer against Mexico in the round of sixteen.
