Manchester United rejected the chance to sign Dimitar Berbatov during the summer despite their former star offering to join on a free transfer, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The 34-year-old left Monaco at the end of the previous campaign and was looking to find a new club, eventually joining Greek side PAOK.
However, United were said to have turned down his services given his age, especially after allowing 32-year-old Robin van Persie to join Fenerbahce in the summer.
They instead signed 19-year-old Anthony Martial from Monaco for £36million, with the forward already living up to his price tag with three goals from his last two league matches.
Berbatov enjoyed a very successful spell during his four years at Old Trafford, winning the Premier League on two occasions and the League Cup a further one time.
He featured for the Red Devils 149 times in all competitions and managed to score a total of 56 goals since his arrival in 2008 until his departure in 2012.
