Manchester United were close to signing Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus on deadline day as part of their Adnan Januzaj deal, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League ever since the start of the summer, as rivals Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal were also keen on his acquisition.
United earlier agreed a season-long loan deal with the Bundesliga giants which saw Januzaj complete a move to Westfalenstadion.
Reus is considered to be a key member for this side and has already featured seven times in all competitions this term, scoring six goals.
Manager Louis van Gaal instead turned his attentions to sealing a £36million deal for Monaco forward Anthony Martial who has now finalized his switch to Old Trafford.
