Man United were close to deadline day signing of £60m Dortmund star

Manchester United were close to signing Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus on deadline day as part of their Adnan Januzaj deal, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League ever since the start of the summer, as rivals Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal were also keen on his acquisition.

United earlier agreed a season-long loan deal with the Bundesliga giants which saw Januzaj complete a move to Westfalenstadion.

Reus is considered to be a key member for this side and has already featured seven times in all competitions this term, scoring six goals.

The Red Devils were believed to be ready to pay up to about £50million for the services of the Germany international, but the move was halted when Dortmund demanded £60million.

Manager Louis van Gaal instead turned his attentions to sealing a £36million deal for Monaco forward Anthony Martial who has now finalized his switch to Old Trafford.
