Man United’s chances of landing Sergio Ramos slim

Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez has stated that Sergio Ramos is an essential member of his future plans and will not leave the Spanish side this summer, as per The Guardian.

The World Cup-winning central defender has only two years left on his current deal at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.

Louis van Gaal’s men are undergoing a transition, with star names such as Bastian Schweinsteiger and Memphis Depay already moving to Old Trafford.

A commanding central defender is said to be on the Red Devils’ hitlist, with Ramos believed to be first choice for the English outfit.

However, Benitez has stated that the veteran defender will not be moving ahead of next season.

“In terms of Sergio Ramos, there’s a lot of talk about his situation,” Benitez said.

“For me, he is an enormous professional. In person, he applies himself, he does everything that the team and I ask of him.

“The president has already commented that he is staying with the club. I have spoken to Sergio at length in the summer about his ideas, about his future.

“I see Sergio as an integral part of our team, he’s a winner and that’s what we need in our team.”

Reports claim that United would only allow David De Gea to move to Madrid if Ramos was to go the other way and join the Premier League side.
