Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal’s surprise summer striker has been revealed to be Juventus star Fernando Llorente, according to reports from the Mirror.
While on the club’s pre-season tour, the Dutch manager stated during a press conference that the Red Devils are definitely closing in on a striker, and claimed that it is not a player being circulated around in the media.
This has caused papers to point to the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and even Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the ‘surprise signing’, but it seems that it is Spain international Fernando Llorente who is set to arrive at Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window.
Llorente has struggled for regular playing time at the Juventus Stadium the past season, falling behind the likes of Carlos Tevez and Alvaro Morata in the pecking order.
And even with Tevez’s departure to Boca Juniors, Llorente has been offered to United and Van Gaal seems keen on the 6ft 5in attacker.
The 30-year-old only started 19 games in Serie A last season, scoring seven league goals.
