Manchester City star Javi Garcia is set to join Zenit St Petersburg for an estimated £13million ahead of the new English Premier League campaign, The Guardian reports.
It is believed that the Russian side will aim to confirm their new signing by as soon as Thursday after the defensive midfielder looks to have lost hope of retaining a regular place in the squad upon the arrival of Fernando.
The holding role in the middle of the City formation is already occupied by the likes of Yaya Toure and Fernandinho, and his secondary position in centre-back is already filled with the recent signing of Eliaquim Mangala.
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas, now in charge of Zenit, revealed that Garcia will be a first choice player should he make the move to the Russian league.
Manuel Pellegrini will also need to offload a few foreign players to comply with the Champions League quota and with the 27-year-old likely to depart, he will only need to leave one more player out of his European selection.
