Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta questions why Diego Costa wasn’t sent off for his response to the tackle made by the Argentine which saw him earn his second yellow card of the match, Mirror reports.
The 29-year-old right back already had a booking to his name as he went in hard in an attempt to take the ball away from the Blues front man in a highly contested encounter.
With the current English Premier League champions down to 10 men, Jose Mourinho’s side swiftly capitalized to make it 1-0 as Zabaleta claims Costa shouldn’t be on the pitch as well.
“I would like to apologise to everyone for my red card today,” he wrote.
“However after seeing this image I can’t believe that Diego Costa remained on the pitch.”
The Spanish international seemed to have reacted badly when the tackle came in as he seemed to have grabbed the Argentinian around his neck with the City ace believing that offence should have earned him a red, instead of a yellow.
However, Frank Lampard broke his former team’s heart by netting the equalizer to earn both sides a point after the match ended 1-1.
