Manchester City are set to intervene in Bayern Munich’s attempts to sign Spain international Javi Martinez, according to The Daily Mail.
The Athletic Bilbao central midfielder, who can also play in defence, has been linked with a raft of big clubs over the last number of seasons, but the Bavarian giants looked like frontrunners for his signature.
Jupp Heycnkes’ men are believed to have met the star’s £31.4 million release clause, but are supposedly having problems agreeing personal terms with the versatile player.
With a move to the Allianz Arena stalling, Roberto Mancini is eager to re-enter the race for Martinez’s signature, and will try to convince the City board to fork out the money for the Bilbao man.
