Manchester City hit with injury blow

Vincent Kompany

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany was dealt a blow yesterday as it was revealed he will be out for at least a month, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The Belgian international injured his groin against Newcastle United on Monday and will be missing for four weeks, leaving boss Manuel Pellegrini massively short of defensive cover with Matija Nastasic and Micah Richards also on the sidelines.

Nastasic is rated 50/50 for this weekend’s trip to Cardiff but if he fails to be passed fit holding midfielder Javi Garcia may have to fill in at centre back alongside Joleon Lescott.

Pellegrini is set to be in the market for a centre back before the transfer window closes that will end his summer spending having formed a strong looking squad for their title push.

‘I prefer that the doctor has the last word on this but it looks like he will be out for at least one month,” Pellegrini said.

“He is going to see the doctor today. We will know today or tomorrow what will happen to him.’
