Manchester City monitoring Stoke Player of the Year

Manchester City are believed to be after Stoke City’s Ryan Shawcross after the player showed some great performances this season for his side, Daily Mail reports.

Shawcross’ good form for Stoke was rewarded when he was named as the club’s player of year, but now faces interest from City as well as Newcastle United.

The 26-year-old centre defender can be lured to the Etihad for about £12-million, an offer Mark Hughes may find quite hard to reject even though he would want to keep the services of his star player.

With Hughes keeping a close eye on Arsenal’s Joel Campbell, the money gained from this potential transfer could pave way for a potential move.

Manuel Pellegrini is beginning to face problems after the outcome of the Financial Fair Play caused his squad for the Champions League to be reduced to 21, but they will still need to name eight ‘home-grown’ players.

The current Premier League champions will now be trying to find more domestic players to keep the team ready for Europe as Shawcross becomes one of their many targets.
