The Etihad Stadium outfit have been bolstered by the multi-millions of Sheik Mansour and the Belgium international feels this can only be good for the game in the country.
“I think Tottenham and ourselves doing well in the past few years has been great,” he told Mirror Football.
“Had it just been the same four sides challenging each season, it would have damaged the game here [in England].
“Now there are maybe six teams capable of winning the title – that can only be great for English football,” he stated.
City currently sit in second place in the standings, behind cross-town rivals Manchester United on goal difference, and Kompany feels Roberto Mancini’s side can end up at the summit this term.
“We finished equal-second last season, so there is only one spot to go for this year – and that’s to win the title. It’s a big challenge, but why not? There is pressure and expectation on us, but that’s what we want,” he concluded.
City host Aston Villa on Saturday, and with United travelling to Anfield will hope to move to the top of the table with three points.
