Manchester City weigh up £25m bid for Spaniard

Manchester City are ready to turn their transfer attention to Athletic Bilbao’s Javi Martinez, and will bid £25 million for him according to The Daily Mail.

The versatile 23-year-old can play at centre-back or as a holding midfielder, but is thought that Roberto Mancini sees the Bilbao man as a partner to Vincent Kompany at the back.

The newly-crowned Premier League champions are one of a host of teams courting the San Mames man, who it is believed will play his last game for the Basque club in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.

The Catalan giants, Real Madrid and Manchester United are all interested in Martinez, who will most likely represent Spain at Euro 2012 this summer.

Martinez is believed to have a €30 million release clause in his contract, which equates to around £24 million, and City are more than prepared to meet it.
