Rangers have signed Manchester City's Slovakia international Vladimir Weiss on a season-long loan.
It had been thought that the 20-year-old winger was on the verge of agreeing a deal with Celtic only for Walter Smith to step in to come to an agreement with the youngster at the last minute.
However, the Gers' hopes of signing Nikica Jelavic appear to be fading after Rapid Vienna continued to insist the player was staying in Austria.
The 24-year-old Croatian is desperate to finalise a £4million move to Ibrox and is hoping not to play in the Europa League tie against Aston Villa if necessary.
He said: "If the club is asking me to play against Villa, I'll play. But I can hardly concentrate on the match when, over the past few days, I was sold several times. My head is all mixed up."
However, Rapid's sporting director Alfred Hortnagl said: "It is simply too late to agree to the transfer. It would be irresponsible just before an important game against Villa to sell such a player and not have anyone to cover."
