Manchester United ace contemplates retirement

Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he may not carry on playing next season, as reported by the Metro.

Ferdinand is out of contract at the end of the season and is unlikely to be offered a new one with David Moyes hoping for a change of the guard at the heart of his United side with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling seeking regular first team football.

Ferdinand has been linked with a move back to his first club West Ham in recent months but going out at the top of the game is becoming an attractive proposition for the 35 year old.

The former England international is not looking too far ahead but he does plan to make a serious decision at the end of the season with age catching up on him.

‘I don’t know what will happen,’ said Ferdinand.

“I’ve got to get through this season first. I hope I finish this one.

‘Last season I said the same thing.

‘I won’t look any further than the end of the season and then re-evaluate it around that time.’
