Manchester United and Liverpool target Ryan Gauld has extended his contract at Dundee United, according to talkSPORT.
The 18-year-old forward has been described as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe, and has also been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
However, any move looks set to be delayed after the talented forward marked his eighteenth birthday by signing a one year contract extension with the SPL side.
Gauld has been described as “finest young prospect in Scotland, maybe even Europe” by the national newspaper Scotland on Sunday, since making his debut as a 16-year-old.
Dundee United fans have nicknamed the forward ‘mini Messi’, although he is yet to make his senior debut for Gordan Strachan’s Scotland side.
Gauld scored his sixth goal of the season during Dundee’s 4-1 win over Kilmarnock at the weekend, and boss Jackie McNamara said his contract extension proves the clubs desire to build something ‘special.’
The Dundee boss said: “Ryan is showing his commitment to the club by signing this contract. We are trying to build something special here and securing Ryan on a longer deal signals our desire to achieve this.
“He is a fantastic talent who appreciates that Dundee United is the best place for him to develop at this time.
“Dundee United fans will quite rightly be delighted at this news and how the club is moving forward just now.”
