The Portuguese boss praised the defender, who joined from Villarreal this summer, and has likened his potential to that of Raphael Varane, who he managed at Real Madrid:
“I will give Eric everything to try to make him better and better like I did with other central defenders I’ve had in my hands,” said Mourinho.
“Like for example Varane and I will try to make him the best I can. Of course he is a very young boy coming from a completely different environment, but you could see what he is at this moment.
“He has showed the potential we saw when we decided to buy him.”
Bailly got his first taste of English football in a 2-0 victory over Wigan in a preseason friendly, the first win for him, and new manager Mourinho. The club are preparing for their first competitive game, the FA Community Shield against Leicester City, on August 7th, a week before the Premier League restarts.
Bailly cost £30million to bring to Old Trafford, signing after an impressive season in La Liga, making 25 league appearances.
He’s already got a taste of playing against new rivals Liverpool, defeating the Reds 1-0 in the UEFA Europa League.
