Manchester United boss wary of striker’s fitness

Manchester United manager David Moyes is worried about overusing striker Wayne Rooney with long term fitness always an issue, as reported by the Metro.

Rooney has been United’s best player so far this season and claims he is feeling as fit as ever, however Moyes is planning on resting the England striker at some point over the Christmas period to avoid fatigue.

Sir Alex Ferguson slated Rooney’s fitness levels in his recent autobiography claiming that the 28 year old could no longer beat a defender.

Moyes disagrees with Ferguson but knows he will have to rest his key man with club and country responsibilities mounting.

‘Somewhere along the line I’ll probably need to give Wayne a breather” Moyes said.

‘I’ll need to try to look after him as we go along. It might be the next England games against Denmark in March but I know Wayne and he will want to play.

‘I’ve got probably got another 25-30 games so it’s not me saying to England give him a break in March – I think I probably need to look after him somewhere in the next two months.”
