Manchester United braced for £18m approach

The Mirror are reporting that Paris Saint Germain are lining up an £18 move for Dimitar Berbatov.

The French club, backed by their new Qatari ownership, are poised to flex their financial muscles by bidding for the Manchester United star.

Berbatov has a year remaining on his deal at Old Trafford with the 30-year-old’s future far from secure despite his goal scoring form in 2010/11

He was United’s top scorer with 20 goals last season but hasn’t been offered a new deal despite teammates Javier Hernandez, Antonio Valencia and Park Ji Sung being rewarded with new contracts.

Berbatov’s reaction to being left out of the Champions League final squad, he watched the match in the dressing room rather than in the stands, is understood to have sealed his fate.

Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly ready to dispense with the striker he signed for £30 million from Tottenham in 2009.

PSG are now ready to save the Bulgarian from his Old Trafford hell by putting together a package to bring him to the Pac de Princes.

An £18 million deal is in the pipeline for Berbatov although it may have to wait as the French club are still trying to tie up a deal for Palermo’s midfield star Javier Pastore.
