Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney has praised former team mate and new Arsenal man Danny Welbeck revealing that he is a top player, but is often undervalued, Daily Star reports.
The 23-year-old believed his time at Old Trafford will be very limited since the arrival of Louis van Gaal, so he decided to make a deadline day switch to the Gunners for a fee of £16million.
Based on the statement made by Rooney, it looks as though he believes Welbeck shouldn’t have made the switch to join Arsene Wenger’s side, despite the fact that he looks to have revived his career at the Emirates.
The England captain said: “Daniel’s a fantastic footballer, I think sometimes he doesn’t get the credit he deserves for his footballing ability.
“Obviously he’s quick and athletic and can score different type of goals, actually as a footballer he’s very intelligent.
“You’ll start to see that the more he plays for Arsenal week in week out, he’ll prove what a good footballer he is, and for England.
“He’s done well for England when he’s played, you’ve seen the Switzerland game where he got the two goals.
“For me, he’s a top, top player.”
