Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has confirmed that the club will be looking to purchase a creative midfielder when the transfer window reopens this summer, according to reports from Sky Sports.
Van Gaal has been tinkering with his side’s formation and line-up since his arrival, which has seen star striker Wayne Rooney often deployed as a central midfielder.
The Dutch boss insisted that in an attempt to find balance he had no choice but to use the England international much deeper than he is accustomed to, because no one else has the ability to play his role.
“Signing a creative player should be our priority this summer,” the 63-year-old said. “I’m looking for balance and I need it in midfield.
“In the last few games I’ve played Adnan Januzaj and Angel di Maria in the midfield positions, and you need a certain balance for that kind of creative player.
“Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie are also creative players so then you have four of them, and you still have to look for balance in your team.
“Wayne is playing in midfield because there is no one else. He’s happy to do so otherwise he should come to me and say he’s not, but he never does. He’s always friendly to me and wants to perform.
“But of course when the whole world is writing that he has to be in the striker’s position then he will be thinking ‘hey, maybe’. He’s human.”
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for a midfielder in the past few transfer windows, with the likes of Roma ace Kevin Strootman and Juventus duo Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal targeted by the Premier League giants.
However it is unlikely that former Man United wonderkid Pogba will leave for cheap, as Real Madrid and Chelsea are both also interested in the Frenchman.
