Manchester United are turning to Galatasaray ace Semih Kaya as an alternative to Nicolas Otamendi, according to reports from the Express.
United have been heavily linked with a move for Valencia’s Otamendi in recent weeks, as club manager Louis van Gaal scours the transfer market for a quality defender.
However, the Red Devils are reluctant to pay the Argentine’s £35million buy-out clause, which is set to force Van Gaal to search elsewhere to sign a centre-back.
Although the club have funds to spend in the market, United are looking to reinforce many areas of the pitch and have to be vary of their purchases.
Van Gaal is therefore considering several cost-effective alternatives, and could make a £5.5million move for Galatasaray star Kaya.
The Turkey international was previously tracked to replace Nemanja Vidic at Old Trafford, and the 24-year-old is once again being targeted to bolster Van Gaal’s options in defence.
But the Red Devils will need to fend off competition from Inter Milan, with Nerazzurri manager Roberto Mancini having worked with Kaya while he was still in charge at the Turk Telekom Arena.
