Manchester United defender expects new contract

Manchester United left back Alexander Buttner has revealed he hopes to sign a new deal at Old Trafford after a hectic deadline day, as reported by Sky Sports.

The Dutch defender has played a bit-part role at United since joining 12 months ago with club vice-captain Patrice Evra the first choice for the foreseeable future.

New boss David Moyes was eager to sign a new left back in the summer with Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao and Everton’s Leighton Baines both the subject of failed bids in recent weeks.

Buttner was set to join Besiktas on loan if Coentrao arrived on deadline day but now the deal is a no go, the 24 year old has been told he is part of the first team at Old Trafford by Moyes.

“Last year I have had a good season and the club have seen that,” Buttner is quoted as saying in De Telegraaf.

“The club now want to talk about a new deal. That shows a lot of appreciation.”

Speaking about the possibility of joining Besiktas on loan, the 24-year-old added: “It was a pity that fell through. With an eye on the World Cup next year in Brazil, I wanted to play games.

“Last Wednesday I had a good meeting with our manager David Moyes. He told me that I will play enough this year at Manchester United.

“He absolutely didn’t want to let me go. He sees me as a full United player.”
