Chelsea are ready to hijack Manchester United’s proposed £6 million move for Crewe forward Nick Powell, according to The Daily Mail.
The 18-year-old marksman scored for the Railwaymen in the League Two playoff final against Cheltenham on Sunday and has gained plaudits for his incisive play.
Powell broke into the Crewe team at the age of 16, and has made over 50 appearances for the club since.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are believed to bring the prospect to Old Trafford, as they look to sign young home-grown players to bolster their youth ranks.
However, big-spending Chelsea, who have already signed Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Marko Marin this summer, are ready to ransack United’s bid.
Powell will now have a decision to make in terms of his future, with both Premier League giants fighting it out for his signature.
