Manchester United’s rivalry with Liverpool is one of the fiercest in the game, and it is expected to get even bigger if the Red Devils win the EFL Cup final on Sunday.

The North-West outfit have lifted the trophy on four occasions, but they have added incentive to go on and beat Southampton at Wembley, and it is to do with their arch enemies.

If Jose Mourinho guides his team to victory, United will match Liverpool’s tally of 44 major pieces of silverware.

As it stands, the Old-Trafford based club have scooped 20 league titles, 12 FA Cups, four League Cups, three European trophies, a UEFA Super Cup title, the Cup Winners’ Cup, the Intercontinental Cup and one Club World Cup.

Liverpool have less league crowns than United (18), but they make up for it in European cups having won five since the club’s existence.

The Merseyside outfit also have seven FA Cups, eight League Cups, three UEFA Cups and three UEFA Super Cups in their trophy cabinet.

Not only could United match Liverpool’s record this weekend, they could surpass it by the end of the campaign as they are in contention for Europa League and FA Cup glory, while Jurgen Klopp’s men are no longer in any cup competitions.
