Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has confirmed that there will be a surprise striker signing this summer, according to reports from BT Sport.
United have been heavily linked with a move for a striker ever since the beginning of the transfer window, with only Wayne Rooney as the Red Devils’ real option up front.
Last week Van Gaal seemed adamant that the club were not looking for a new forward, but on the eve of their second match during their pre-season tour, the Dutch boss revealed that a striker is in the process of a move to Old Trafford.
However, he also claimed that the player isn’t the one being circulated around in the media, and that it will be a “surprise.”
Van Gaal said: “A surprise? Yes. He’s in the process.
“It’s not the striker that the media has written.
“But you have to wait and see.
“The transfer period is open until September 2.”
There were also recent reports that the Old Trafford club launched a stunning £70million bid for Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller, who played for Van Gaal while the former Barcelona boss was in charge at the Allianz Arena.
