Manchester United miss out on midfield target

Manchester United have missed out on EURO 2016 winner Andre Gomes, reports the Express.

United were reportedly keen to sign the 22-year-old from Valencia this summer, as Jose Mourinho looks to build his new squad at Old Trafford.

The former Chelsea boss has already signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly and Henrik Mkhitaryan this summer.

But he won’t be adding Andre Gomes, who is set to join Barcelona this summer. The Catalan club tweeted that Andre Gomes will be presented as a Barca player next week:

United still are yet to officially announce a deal for Paul Pogba, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer. And they have now missed out on a different midfield target.

The youngster played in five EURO 2016 games this summer, as Portugal went on to lift the trophy. He came off the bench in the 2-0 victory over Wales in the semi-final, but didn’t get on the field in the final.
