Manchester United preparing £50m bid for Chelsea defensive target

Manchester United are preparing to make a bid worth £50million to beat Chelsea to Everton star John Stones, according to reports from the Daily Star.

Stones has been heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park since the summer, with English champions Chelsea having several bids turned down by the Toffees.

However, the Blues aren’t giving up and are ready to mount another offer when the transfer window reopens in January.

But they will have some major competition in the form of Man United, who are willing to make Stones the world’s most expensive ever defender by launching an offer in the region of £50million.

Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal has recently come under pressure following United’s exit from the UEFA Champions League, but will have the opportunity to reinvigorate his squad by spending in the January transfer market.

Stones, 21, has made 17 appearances in all competitions for Everton this season.
