Manchester United are once again targeting Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi, Express reports.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a centre-back recently, with Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels their priority target.
However if United are unable to land the German – who is also coveted by Arsenal and Manchester City – then they will turn to Argentina international Otamendi.
The 26-year-old could be available next month with the news that Valencia are close to signing Marseille’s Brazilian defender Doria, which could force Otamendi down the pecking order.
However despite the expected arrival of Doria, Otamendi has been valued at £40million by the La Liga side, which is close to Hummels £47million valuation set by Dortmund.
It is therefore likely that the Red Devils will wait to see if Hummels becomes available, before making a move for Otamendi late in the January as an adequate alternative.
Otamendi is reportedly also a close friend with £59.7million summer signing Angel di Maria, which could aid in luring the former Porto defender to Old Trafford.
