Manchester United star Wayne Rooney’s knee injury could be more serious than first thought, with The Express claiming that the England star needs to go under the knife and could miss Euro 2016 as a result.
The Red Devils captain is expected to be out for a number of months and will definitely miss England’s upcoming friendlies with Germany and Netherlands next month.
However, the latest report states that Rooney could well miss the remainder of the Premier League season and his place in Roy Hodgson’s squad for this summer’s tournament in France is under threat.
England have plenty of other options in attack including Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane and Daniel Sturridge, but Rooney’s presence offers experience and a star quality – the Three Lions would certainly miss their skipper should he be unavailable.
Rooney’s ideal role for his country is still to be determined, with the versatile attacker able to play in a number of different positions if so needed.
